What documents do I need for a mortgage?

The minimum documents needed to apply for a mortgage are:

  • Proof of ID, such as your passport
  • Proof of address, which could be your driving license
  • Last 3 months’ bank statements
  • Last 3 months’ payslips or last 2 years’ accounts if you are self-employed

If you have adverse credit such as CCJs, defaults or missed payments, it is normal for the mortgage lender to require additional documentation for underwriting. This can include a P60 to prove your income for the latest year, and/or proof of rental or mortgage payments for the last 12 or 24 months.
