How to improve your credit score

13th February 2020

Making your credit look as strong as possible is important when applying for a mortgage, as lenders will look at you as a risk.

To improve your chances of getting your mortgage application approved, there are a few easy things you can do, which could make a big difference to your credit score!

  • Make sure you are on the electoral roll: This will give lenders valuable proof of your address
  • Pay your bills on time: If this is something you struggle with, then setting up a direct debit is a good way to ensure that you never miss a payment
  • Take out a credit card: It’s an easy way of getting credit if you don’t have any, it’s not necessary to use it, and if you think you would be tempted to spend on it, you can just cut it up
  • Don’t have too much credit: If you have a credit card with a high limit, it’s best to reduce this as far as possible as it could go against you, even if you have never used your card.
